The title may have brought up images of the old TV cartoon Davy and Goliath, but the idea was to present the Biblical David and Goliath story in a modern setting.
We did have a big storm last night, and the dumb dog sleeps near our feet except on stormy nights. Then, he vibrates after every lightning flash or thunderclap, and he gets nervous and pants right in my face. I don’t know who dislikes storms more, me or the dog. So, I wrote a similar tale in today’s comic, but I felt it would be funnier to imply it was the wife.
One of my coworkers was complaining about staying up late for a project problem, and it reminded me of earlier in my career when that was not uncommon. Missing out on sleep always made things seem silly. And I had the middle panel be nothing except laughing in a nod toward the way Family Guy has scenes like that go on for an extended time.
